The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle in Darłowo is the only surviving ducal castle on the Polish coast and the city's most important monument. The brick fortress was built in the mid-14th century at the initiative of Duke Bogusław V and served as the residence of the House of Griffin for centuries.
The castle is inextricably linked to Eric of Pomerania—the ruler of the Kalmar Union, King of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, born in Darłowo, who spent the last years of his life here.
Today, the castle houses the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle Museum, with its rich collections of art, military artifacts, and regional memorabilia. It's worth climbing the observation tower, which offers panoramic views of the Old Town and surrounding area. It's a must-see on any visit to Darłowo.
