About this place
The Chapel of St. Gertrude is one of the most original religious buildings in Poland. Built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries on a central plan, it has an unusual, twelve-sided shape, topped by a high, tented roof, giving it a crown-like shape.
The interior, with its ring of slender pillars and star vault, is truly impressive. The chapel stands slightly off the beaten track in the Old Town, along a former road, and for centuries served as a cemetery chapel, among other functions.
It is an architectural gem that should not be missed by anyone interested in Gothic history and art.
