What to see in Darłowo and Darłówek - a guide for the 2026 weekend

Darłowo is one of the most interesting towns on the Polish coast—it combines medieval history (the only seaside castle in Poland) with the typical holiday atmosphere of Darłowo: a fishing port, a floating bridge, and a wide beach. Below, an itinerary for a weekend or short break shows off the best of Darłowo.

Day 1 - the city and the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle

Start with the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle —the only castle on the Polish coast and the heart of Darłowo's history. It was here that King Eric of Pomerania , ruler of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, resided and died. Today, it houses a museum with rich collections, and the tower offers views of the entire town and the Wieprza River Valley.

From the castle, stroll to the market square (Stary Rynek) with its town hall and tenement houses, and from there to St. Mary's Church —a massive 14th-century Gothic church housing the sarcophagi of Pomeranian princes. A few steps further stands St. Gertrude's Chapel —one of the most valuable central Gothic structures in Poland, built on a polygonal plan.

Day 2 - Darłówko, port and beach

Day two is Darłówko —a seaside district a few kilometers from the center (accessible by car, bike, or seasonal electric cart). The heart of Darłówko is the port at the mouth of the Wieprza River, where fishing boats and yachts are moored. The biggest attraction is the movable bridge connecting East and West Darłówko—during the season, it opens at set times to allow vessels to pass through. It's worth timing your walk with the opening.

At the port you'll find a lighthouse you can climb, and a promenade with food stalls and fish stalls. In the afternoon, there's a beach : Darłówko has two beaches, one east and one west, both wide and with a gentle entrance to the water (more in a separate beach guide).

Day 3 - cruise, attractions and activities

On the third day, it's worth taking a cruise—short cruises on the Baltic Sea depart from the port. Families with children can enjoy local attractions (a water park, ranch, fishing grounds), while cyclists can take advantage of the coastal trails toward Wieprza and the surrounding forests.

Practical tips

• Best time: June and September – warm water, less crowds, lower prices than in high season.
