As early as 1715, the Darłowo authorities ordered lights to be placed on both sides of the Wieprza River mouth to safely guide ships into port. However, a permanent lighthouse had to wait until 1885 , when a brick harbor pilot station with a small tower and a red light was built.

The structure owes its present form to a reconstruction in 1927 , when the tower was raised. It currently stands 22 meters tall, with the light located approximately 20 meters above sea level. For generations, its distinctive red silhouette has guided fishermen and sailors returning from the sea.
